Safari Planning
Season-by-season guidance for Tanzania safaris, Kilimanjaro climbs, the Great Migration, and Zanzibar beach time.
Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the best timing depends on the trip style you want. The dry season from June to October is popular for safaris because wildlife gathers around water sources and roads are usually easier to navigate.
December to March is also excellent for northern Tanzania safaris, especially the southern Serengeti calving season. This period can bring dramatic predator activity and strong wildlife viewing in the Ndutu area.
April and May are the long-rain months. Some travelers avoid this period, but it can offer green landscapes, fewer vehicles, and good value where camps remain open.
For Kilimanjaro, the drier windows from January to early March and June to October are usually preferred. Zanzibar works well for much of the year, with March to May generally wetter.
Yes. Some parks remain rewarding, but road conditions and camp availability should be checked before confirming.
The migration moves through the year, so the best area depends on the month. Your itinerary should match the expected herd location.
